Why Endgrain?
The most important tool in your kitchen may be a sharp knife, but a quality cutting board is a close second. There are many different cutting board options available on the market. Some chefs and home cooks choose common, plastic cutting boards because they are affordable and easily replaced. However, plastic cutting boards have unforgiving surfaces that dull knives, develop scratches that harbor bacteria, and take hundreds of years to decompose. For those reasons, many choose hardwood end-grain cutting boards protect your knife, protect against bacteria, and protect the environment.
Protect your knives
Dull knives are more dangerous to use than sharp knives since they require more cutting force and are more likely to slip. Your knife cuts in between wood fibers on an endgrain board, which protects your knife from dulling and keeps you safer, longer.
Protect against bacteria
Cutting in between wood fibers results in surface scratches that can heal over time. which means they're more resilient to the deep scratches and gouges you'll find in face-grain, edge-grain, and plastic boards after being used for everyday prep. Spending 30 seconds applying a few drops of oil sealant to an endgrain cutting board, once a month, can limit bacterial penetration into the wood, resulting in a healthier cutting surface for food preparation.
Protect the environment
My end-grain cutting boards only feature wood from milling operations that practice responsible forestry, resulting in an environmentally-friendly product. Additionally, if your end-grain cutting board wears after years of use, I can sand and refurbish it to its original glory; the same cannot be said of plastic cutting boards. With proper care, my beautiful end-grain cutting boards can serve your family for generations.
